Beginning

The URL for this blog can be explained rather simply. I wanted to use pocketmonster.blogspot.com, but it was already taken. For the uninitiated, pocket monsters are better known as PokémonPokémon is, in my opinion, the best game of all time. People from India know Pokémon better as a cartoon series on Cartoon Network. For me, between Std. 6 and 10, it was a way of life.

Before you judge me, let me just say that I wasn't alone. Approximately 155 million people worldwide thought so too; that's how many copies Pokémon, the game sold. I'm not even getting into the countless merchandising spin offs: animated series, manga, trading cards and God knows what else. Pokémon, at the most basic level, is an RPG. It was originally meant to be played on a tiny 2-inch square, black and white Gameboy display.

I played it on a Gameboy emulator on my desktop PC. In this sense, I was considerably more blessed than the poor souls who had to make do with such a poor setting for such a grand game. Kind of like performing Shakespeare's Julius Caesar or Macbeth on a street corner. Using emulators is also illegal, but that'a a different story.

The object of the game was to capture and train Pokémon, literally, pocket monsters. These are creatures that live in a device called a Pokéball, when you have captured them. You fight other Pokémon trainers' wards and thus, make your way in the Pokémon world.

And what a world it was. The graphics and the screen didn't do it justice. No canvas could be broad enough to paint the Pokémon world in all its beauty, complexity and immensity.

Anyway, enough reminiscing about a pointless childhood pursuit. The point of me writing this blog is simple. I'm going out of my mind with boredom and need a place to vent. This is it. I don't expect anyone to read my posts, although if anyone does, it will considerably broaden their minds (pardon the conceitedness of that statement. I'm making it secure in the knowledge that no one will ever read it).

In addition, writing regularly is a good way to sharpen one's language skills. I always wanted to be a writer when I was a kid (I'm sure most bloggers have expressed this sentiment at one point or another). But I'm nowhere near attaining that goal, possibly farther than I was back then (because I wrote quite regularly back then). There's a good reason this blog is entitled the Writer's Block; it describes my current condition and a fictional place I'd like to be a part of someday.

Ciao
